Guide to being a Sane fan: HetaliaNew to the Hetalia fandom?

That's why I'm here to help.
This will be a mini guide on how to be a sane Hetalia fan.
1. Don't be obsessive over your OTP (one true pairing) or OTPs. Let's face it. They aren't canon. The only one's that could be called canon is AusHun, ChibitaliaXHoly Rome, and SuFin. The rest are just ones we the fans made and support.
I'm gonna pick on FrUK for a second, so bear with me FrUK shippers. You're the 'biggest' FrUK fan ever. So you're going through your messages and you see the pairing you hate the most - USUK. And you know what makes it worse? It's not even a picture. It's a fan fiction with horrible grammar and spelling (the horror!).
You see this abomination. You comment on it with this - 'FUUUU!!!111!!!FRUK IS CANON!!!!111!!!USUK SUKS!!U SUK!!!!FRUKKK IZ DA LUV!!!!11!!!'

Good Hetalia Fanfic advice + Other canon thingsI've been browsing fanfics on dA here lately, and I gotta say, some of them are just so out of character it's not even funny. So, I'll be making a nice little list here of things that are canon and tips on what to do when making a fanfic.

Do not butcher a language, this means using things like "Fratello", "Bruder", "Mon cheri", etc. DO NOT USE THOSE UNLESS THE CHARACTER IS TALKING TO ANOTHER CHARACTER WHOM SPEAKS THAT LANGUAGE FLUENTLY.

Do not make a character call their sibling only by brother, sister, etc. Saying those in different languages are not an exception! It's more likely for siblings to call each other by their names, as I call my big sister Crystal. An exception for using brother/sister/etc is when the character is talking to someone whom does not know their sibling or

Sane vs. InsaneA Sane Hetalia fan is:

-Someone who respects other opinions regarding OTPs, character, thoughts, beliefs, etc. Either positive or negatives. Honesty is the best policy. You don't have to like/hate yaoi, shounen ai, yuri, shojo ai, hetero etc. Don't be a dick about it.

-Someone who keeps their interest under control. (Yes, you can be dedicated to the show and you can fangirl but please, keep it UNDER control and within your Hetalian friends.)

-Someone who doesn't ALWAYS rant about one thing. For example, someone who doesn't like USUK would just make a stamp that can say "USUK isn't the best" or "I hate USUK." As long as the person with that

Because stuff like this makes me want to hurt people. Form the self inserts and relationship sues to the people who think they don't have to do research to the Ocs that offend and think they can get away with it. Ocs like Alley, the tracing Alaska((proof for any fan who thinks I'm lying [link])), the whitewashers, the people who think they can create a design then just add a nation too it, the hurricane oc, the Nazi!Anyplaces.

I WANT YOU ALL OUT OF MY FUCKING FANDOM NOW

I have Hetalia Ocs, you know what the difference between me and them are? I do research, draw my own stuff, I don't whitewash, I always try to improve my designs, I do actual research, I take advice on how to make them better, I do research before starting on the designs, I don't chose a place just cause its close to a canon country, and I take the time to make sure my Ocs aren't offensive.

Ugh, sing it sister. You can honestly tell who put love and care into their OCs, and who doesn't. I even site my sources with my OC: [link] And I've talked to people who actually live there.
And their designs are supposed to be based on their country! Hell, I looked up common genetics for mine's people. Like you said, whitewashing is just freakin' annoying.
And is it so wrong to have an OC that isn't in a relationship?

Wow! I didn't even know people could make such characters like that and pass them off as it being for fun. Research is important to making a Hetalia OC repectfully. That's why I take the time to research about my own OC, Peru

Oh God.I hate when this happens.I happen to know someone on G+ who RPs Indonesia,and to be honest,I was kinda offended by the fact that her character was whitewashed (blonde hair and blue eyes?For a South east Asian?What???),an incorrect birthday (I don't remember what it was,but it wasn't Aug 17th),and a non-Indonesian name.I asked her _politely_ why her OC is incorrect,and she said "I was bored so i created a roleplay account and I just chose Indonesia.WHAT.I am an Indonesian (born in Jawa to mostly Indonesian parents,stayed there for around 7 mo),and I hate to see my own country being an OC whom is probably a self-insert.And I'm pretty sure that the admin just created her so that she could date America.

Yea I have my share of OC's or as what they really are, fan characters (This is my opinion, but if you think differently, I respect that.) I made a Tennessee OC (mostly because I have a feeling that I know the state well.) and I don't consider her or any of my other Hetalia fan characters finished. (By the time I'm done making them, I will have probably done a crap load of research.) I don't want my fan characters to be seen as a Mary Sue/Gary Stu, so I'm going to do what I can to make them a well-researched character. (Sorry about my long comment ;-

I did i freaking three hours worth of research on my OC Slovakia. and that was just the basics. I still have to go in a tweak a bunch of things on her, good OC's take a lot of work and i hate it when people are lazy and just make them look like whatever the heck they want them to. Seriously i still don't even consider mine done. at all.
